Kencot Pilates
Kencot Chair Pilates.
Kencot Hall every Tuesday morning at 11.15am -12.00 noon:
What is Chair Pilates?
From Liz, Kencot Pilates Instructor :
Chair Pilates is the perfect alternative for people who find Matwork pilates something that doesn't work for them.Using a chair as our main piece of equipment, a wide range of movements and exercises can be done whilst staying in the comfort of your seat. Using our core to strengthen our centre, we lengthen , balance, rotate and co-ordinate to keep our minds and bodies healthy and connected.
What the participants say:
Stella: If, like me, you suffer from a wonky knee, the gentle stretching exercise you get from Chair Pilates I have found to be really beneficial.
Jay:
I do mat Pilates once a week with Liz, but wanted to start up a Chair Pilates group for people who would like to exercise but have balance problems, memory difficulties, injuries and post operational issues.
I went along initially to support the group as it got started but - I love it! It’s not a dumbed down form of Mat Pilates, it is a really good form of exercise in its own right. We use therabands, weighted balls, massage balls - all the things we use in mat Pilates, and it’s doing us all good whilst being safe and non- weight bearing!
Hilary:
It’s a long time since I have been able to exercise due to several health issues. I’ve been doing Chair Pilates now for three months.I enjoy the sessions, and am really beginning to feel the benefits on my physical health.
Chris:
For many years I was a keen participant in the Kencot mat Pilates sessions each week. Unfortunately, I was diagnosed with a form of Dementia two years ago, and this, coupled with failing eyesight, made me unable to continue because my balance became unsteady.
I have joined the Kencot Chair Pilates group, and am finding it, surprisingly, more physically rigorous than I anticipated, and believe it to be a good form of exercise for those of us with balance issues.
